The Part Most Likely to Go Missing

Knobs disappear. They get backed all the way off and set down on a bumper during a fitting job, they vibrate loose on corrugation when they were not quite tight, and they get cross-threaded and abandoned. The failure that catches people out is subtler though: a knob that has been over-tightened for years develops a spun or stripped insert, so it turns freely without ever clamping. It looks perfectly serviceable sitting on the rack and holds nothing at all.

Take the old knob off and compare it against the listing rather than judging from a photograph, and check the thread on your fitting before ordering.
