Platform Sport Clamping Arm (471mm) – 224532

The Platform Sport Clamping Arm (471mm, part 224532) is a genuine Holdfast replacement component for the Holdfast 4 Bike Platform Sport carrier. The clamping arm is the arm that pivots up from the platform and clamps down onto the bike, holding it against the tray so that the wheel straps are not doing the work on their own.

Get the length right

Holdfast supplies the Platform Sport clamping arm in two lengths: this longer 471mm arm and a shorter 261mm arm (224531). They are not interchangeable, and ordering by eye is how people end up with the wrong one. The longer arm reaches across to bikes sitting further out on the platform, so the position on the carrier decides the length, not the bike.

Measure the arm you are replacing before ordering. If the arm is broken or missing entirely, measure the equivalent arm in the matching position on the other side of the carrier.

When a clamping arm needs replacing

The clamping arm carries load in one direction and takes abuse in every other. Replace it if you can see any bend or twist along its length, if there is cracking around the pivot or the clamp pad mounting, if the pivot has worn oval so the arm has play in it, or if the adjustment will no longer hold position under load. An arm that has been bent and straightened is already fatigued at the bend and should not go back on the carrier.
