The Holdfast GM Classic Roof Rack Kit is the straightforward, budget-friendly rack built for the Volkswagen Golf Mk1 and Citi Golf (1984-2009) — including Golf 1, Citi Golf, Velocity and CTi variants with the original rain-gutter roof.
The Golf Mk1 / Citi Golf body has a prominent rain gutter running the length of the roof, which makes it the perfect match for the gutter-mount (GM) style rack. The kit clamps onto the gutter with a padded, rubber-backed foot — no drilling, no adhesive, and no paint damage when installed correctly.
They are the same car. The first-generation Golf stayed in production in South Africa as the Citi Golf long after it was replaced elsewhere, which is why owners search for a Golf Mk1 roof rack, a Golf 1 roof rack and a Citi Golf roof rack interchangeably.
